Important Information
Submit any form of political commentary including art, prose, articles, and more. Submissions will be reviewed and considered for publication. There is no guarantee of acceptance. The average review time can range from one to two months.
The Pen Prize is a yearly prize given to one submission. Submissions must be a form of political commentary touching on a recent issue. The winner of the prize will be featured on the front page of our website and will be the first item listed in the collection they are included in. Winners also receive a prize of $100. The deadline to submit a piece is December 1st, 2025. The winner will be announced on January 1st, 2026.
By submitting a piece for consideration, you agree not to submit it elsewhere unless it is first rejected by The People and the Pen. If approved for publication, the submission becomes the property of The People and the Pen, with full credit given to you as the author. For The Pen Prize, you also agree that your piece may still be published as a standard submission, even if it is not selected as the prize winner.
How To Make A Submission
All submissions must be sent by email to kierancolinschmitt@gmail.com in PDF format. Submissions in any other file type will not be accepted. Any media items included in the PDF (e.g., images, videos) must also be attached separately in their original file format (PNG, MOV, etc.) and in the order they appear in the PDF. The email subject line should read: “Your Name – Submission Type.” If applicable, include a brief explanation of your piece in the body of the email.
